Spring has sprung!

The lovely Joanna at Oxygen Boutique invited Lucie and me back to brighten up the window in time for spring. We wanted to cheer up the street so we thought nothing is cheerier than a field of daisies- so that's what we went for. Five hours, four pens and two dead arms later, this is the result. Go pop down to Eastcastle Street and have a look, especially when the sun is shining!

And the daisies continue on the inside too!

Plastic FANTASTIC

Oh how very, very, VERY excited this delivery has made me. The rather shifty looking bundles, above, contain 9 cut to size acrylic pieces that now await to hopefully be turned into a glorious collection of books.

Just watch this space..... and oh, did I mention how very excited I am?

Project problem solving

I'm having some issues about trying to bind a one page book for my current project. Rather kindly, after contacting book binder/artist Simon Goode, he offered to meet and discuss some of my concerns over gold blocking covers and binding in general. I left the meeting rather inspired and, after a lengthly discussion, I've decided it's perhaps for the best I settle on printing an edition of my letterpress texts rather than worry about the binding as of yet.

Brighton times

Well what a fab time Brighton always is.

Stumbled across this sweet gallery/bookshop space along the beach called Castor & Pollux, currently showcasing 'Burning Love' by Jonny Hannah. Oh i wish I didnt have so many holes in my pocket and could buy some of the lovely things....

And some general Brighton pics (the ones that survived Asda's horrid photo service anyway)....

And it's pretty fair to say that these gluten free cupcakes are a good excuse to return back...tucked away in the lanes, Angel Food Bakery may make me a fat person yet.

John Stezaker

Took a little time out for inspiration today- I needed a free exhibition to go to and so I headed to the Whitechapel Gallery for the John Stezaker exhibition. And oh my, what fabulous images there were. The personal highlight was the wall of tiny people cut from photographs; people unknowingly participating in a photograph somewhere in the distance. Lovely stuff indeed.

Justified type setting

Just to be clear, I have never set any amount of type longer than 3 lines and not left aligned.

However, what better thing could I try and do in my final year than attempt to master the art of justified type in the letterpress workshop? It has taken a few intense weeks to set 3 of my hybrid books that I have been working on but I am so very happy with the result. Now all there is to do is source some top quality paper for some lush prints.

Gosh. The books have finally been cut and piled up.

As the result of the second brief, its created around a basic idea that knowledge gives power. So wearing these booky soled shoes, you can tower over others with the new found knowledge you have!
